Fangirl Quest

Fangirl Quest is an ongoing project that combines our love of TV and movies, photography, travel and much more.

What started as an epic road trip to filming locations all over the UK eventually led to a series of photos we like to call SCENEFRAMING. Though this is still the heart and soul of our Quest, it has grown into something much bigger...

We attend events and premieres, visit attractions, meet other fans, organise giveaways and competitions and go on road trips as often as we can. And then we blog about it all.

See you on the road!

THIS IS JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE!
So many people stepped up and contributed last night that we actually MADE IT TO 100% DURING THE LAST MINUTE. Like, we kid you not - the most exciting few minutes we’ve ever had!
We owe you our eternal gratitude and love. You’ve been amazing, all of you. We’ll post more thankyous and campaign reports later, but we just needed to tell you: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
Now, we’re off to prepare for our trip! Reports and photos to follow.. :)

Movie: Thor: The Dark World
Location: Old Royal Naval College, London, UK (website)

Empire Magazine has a valid question: “Is This The Most Popular Filming Location In The World?”

It’s a good one and we’d like to ask the same. The list of films that were filmed at the Old Royal Naval College is staggering: Les Mis, Sherlock Holmes, King’s Speech, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, Thor: The Dark World, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.. just to mention a few.

So, to every film fanatic who’s heading up to London one of these days.. write this thing down. Get a guided tour. Hear hilarious stories of Johnny Depp’s shenanigans and all sorts of other cool stuff.

Also, check out the rest of the movies we’ve framed here (so far).

A 11000km roadtrip to filming locations? Yup, we’re doing it.
Now that the last hours of our crowdfunding campaign are upon us, we thought we’d post a few words on why we’re doing it and why we think you might want to support us.
Please take a minute to read this
WHY?
Because we LOVE tv, movies, theatre, books and all sorts of entertainment so much that we literally couldn’t live without them. We love the fans equally as much. Their creativity, their dedication, their good hearts, the sense of community.
Our sceneframing photos have reached tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of people already via our Tumblr blog and articles both online and in some of the biggest papers in i.e. the UK, US, Finland and Germany. And since people really seem to like the photos, that’s what we’ve decided to start with. We want to do it properly and with all our might.
But this roadtrip is only that: A Start. We have big plans for Fangirl Quest. We’ve talked about doing charity, organizing fan events, different kinds of art projects and photo projects… just keep on working and see what it’ll become.
WHY SUPPORT?
Obviously by contributing to this campaign, you’re supporting this one roadtrip and the sceneframing photo project. But once you do that, you’ll have also supported our future, life and happiness, as dramatic as it may sound
And hey, it’s easy too! Make a contribution or tell your friends about us, but hurry! Our campaign is ending very VERY soon.

LOCKEDirector: Steven KnightRelease date: 18 April 2014 (UK)
"You don’t trust God when it comes to concrete."
Let’s just get this out of the way: Tom Hardy is just mind-blowingly talented. I’ve seen almost all of the movies he’s ever been in so I don’t have any doubts when it comes to his talent, but it’s this kind of awakening every time.
So he alone is enough to make a movie about a man driving a car interesting and mesmerizing. He’s convincing and real and can make you completely forget you’re watching a legit Hollywood star and not an actual next-door family man.
Of course, he’s not the only thing that makes Locke a good watch: there’s also the directing, the writing and the marvellous voice acting of his co-stars. Especially Andrew Scott’s, which caused a lot of random giggling among the audience.
In a way, Locke reminded me a bit of HBO’s In Treatment. Not every well-written story needs a big stage and effects around it to grab the audience by their hearts and minds and glue them to their seats.
Random observation: Those dudes turning the traffic sign arrow around after that one phone call.. A random coincidence or a subtle, well-thought detail? I trust it’s the latter. Nicely done.
What I need to do next: Call all these numbers and find out if anyone answers. Maybe i’ll get Tom himself on the line and we can ask him out for beers.

Oxford must be one of the most inspiring cities we’ve ever visited. Not only home and place of education to many legendary writers, artists and musicians, but also a popular filming location to several amazing films such as Harry Potter, X-Men: First Class and The Golden Compass.

We went, we enjoyed and now we want to share our Oxford experience with all of you!

OH, NEW FACES!
Lately, we’ve gained a lot of new, lovely followers so here’s a little reminder of what it is we actually blog about.
The SCENEFRAMING photos started this whole thing! They’re about visiting filming locations and framing scenes with an iPad in the exact spots where they were originally filmed. You can find some interviews and articles written about this project via our media coverage page.
FILMING LOCATIONS: We write about the places we’ve visited. Photos, information, Google map links!
We write about MOVIES, THEATRE, EVENTS and other things we see & like.
Sometimes we’re lucky enough to visit actual FILMING SETS. So far we’ve seen the Doctor Who & Sherlock folks in action and we hope to cover some more shows during our roadtrip!
Ah, the roadtrip! Many of you know about it already, but those who don’t.. we’re doing this mad ROADTRIP across Northern America starting April 16th and of course blogging all about it.
We’re funding it with an INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN and we’d be very very pleased if you’d take a moment to check it out and maybe help us with this project!
There’s lots more we write & post photos about so feel free to be curious & look around! :)

You can use the fancy Disqus comment system just below this post, for example, or tweet us! E-mail info@fangirlquest / Tumblr ask is mighty fine too! :)
Although we’re going to be extremely busy driving around looking for the filming locations to do what we came to do (the sceneframing), we would absolutely LOVE to meet you if we only can!
(“What’s sceneframing? Why are you doing this trip?” you might ask.. here be the answer.)

Introducing our new friend and sponsor:
CURIOUS WORLDS TRAVEL

Curious Worlds provides personal support and assistance with planning vacations. They have an amazing list of destinations and attractions, especially for us nerdy folks, but they will happily assist with more traditional vacation planning as well!

They also offer research services for a low fee (starting at $25) to folks that want to add geeky fun to a vacation they booked on their own.

We picked a few favourites from their amazing list of travel ideas:

image

Northern Ireland isn’t the only place where you can go in search of Game of Thrones scenery! There’s a whole list of locations on Curious Worlds’ website.

image

image

Everyone knows New Zealand is the home of all things LOTR, but once you decide to go there, you might find need some help finding the locations. Curious Worlds knows a lot about that stuff!

image

image

Most of the Harry Potter locations and attractions are located in the UK, but you can also hop on your broomstick and head to Florida. More info on the wizard-y destinations on their website!

image

Their nerdy list of travel destinations is the stuff of daydreams!

How about a visit to the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk? Or a weekend at Comic-Con? Maybe the idea of vampires tickles your fancy? Or maybe just come visit the Fangirl Quest home city Cardiff for some Doctor Who action!

What’s listed on the site is a starting place, inspiration. Our pals at Curious Travels are more than happy to customize and create vacations based on the preferences and interests of the customer.

They’re extremely nice folks, too, so don’t hesitate to contact them if you have any questions about traveling or their services!

Movie: Batman Begins
Location: St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London, UK (website)

One of the most beautiful interiors we’ve ever set foot in: the grand staircase of St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Short bits of Batman Begins were filmed here, including Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) carrying Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes) to safety and Batman (Christian Bale) doing this mighty jump through a huge cloud of bats.

The same staircase was used in the legendary Spice Girls video Wannabe, and other parts of the hotel in films like Harry Potter.

See more photos from the staircase in our London travel post!

If you like our sceneframing photos, you can check out the other tv shows and movies we’ve covered so far! You can also help us do more by supporting our Indiegogo campaign
